Frequently Asked Questions
A quick way of finding your answer! e.g. "how can I get my NCB?"
If you cannot find your answer, please use the call me back feature on the right.
This gives a discount dependent on the number of years you have earned a bonus for no claims or losses. No claims bonus (known as NCB or NCD for No Claims Discount) can only be used on one policy at the same time so ensure that your previous policy is either cancelled, or you have requested that the no claims bonus has been removed from the policy.
In either case your Insurers should provide you with some proof as to your no claims entitlement, for example a renewal notice or a cancellation schedule. As long as they show your entitlement you can forward these onto us as your proof of no claims bonus.
Alternatively, complete the form provided and we will attempt to contact your previous Insurers for the no claims bonus proof for you. This is known as "Verbal No Claims Bonus".
If your quote was based on you having no claims bonus on your first vehicle please either provide written proof from your Insurers, or complete a form enclosed in your new business pack. It is less likely that we will be able to obtain the proof verbally though, as your other policy will still be running.
If there has been a gap in cover, i.e. any period over a couple of days between your old policy cancelling or lapsing at renewal, we will ask for a reason why there was a gap in cover. This is to put underwriters minds at ease that there may not be a period where by you were not insured or indeed made a claim and not disclosed. So all that is needed here is a signed and dated letter for the reason for the gap between the dates, such as the vehicle was off the road or you did not need a policy for a reason given in your reply.

When you protect your No Claims Bonus you can make 2 claims in 5 years.
NCD stands for 'No Claims Discount'. NCB stands for 'No Claims Bonus'. They are the same thing. You earn a year's NCB for every full year of a policy in which no claims are made either by you or a third party. Some policies, such as classic car policies, are not based on NCB and so at the end of such a policy you would not have gained any NCB. Only the main policyholder earns NCB.
Most Insurers will accept no claims bonus which has expired up to two years before you use it again. We may be able to use no claims bonus which is over two years old, however you must advise us of this at the time of the quotation.
Not all insurers will allow this. Advise us at the time of quotation that you have commercial vehicle NCB so we can try to accommodate this.
Not normally - advise us of this as an introductory discount may be available.
In order to gain no claims bonus entitlement the insurance policy needs to be in your name. However providing you have been claim free as the named driver, we can normally offer an introductory discount.
No, no claims bonus can only be used on one vehicle at a time, however an introductory discount, or even mirroring (giving you the same discount) if you are claim free could be given.
The maximum sum of no claims bonus some insurers will give a discount for is 4 or 5 years so this is all they will display. However if you were to leave Sureterm Direct we would be able to supply proof of the amount of years you have earned.
