Are caravans setting a trend?

caravan-trendsThe stability and future of the caravanning industry could be at the forefront of caravanners concerns this year, as the recession threats continued to prevail in 2009 coupled with the bad weather – which saw temperatures, as well as caravan holidays, plummet. However you can now put your worries aside following a report from the Camping and Caravanning Club, which has shown that “2010 looks set to be a successful year for caravan holidays in the UK”.

The popularity of this pastime is far from in jeopardy, with recent findings from a poll for The Sunday Times revealing that 54% of Brits plan to take their holiday at home this year. Unlike many other tourism sectors, caravan and camping tourism has endured and defeated recent slowdown trends, and has in-fact encountered increased interest, which is an encouraging sign for the year ahead.

The Caravan and Boat Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 23 – 28 February 2010, presents a unique opportunity for caravan enthusiasts to have some of their questions about the future answered. An encouraging sign was revealed in The Sunday Times poll, which uncovered that only 11% of people are planning a holiday overseas this year, proving once again that caravans and caravan breaks away are triumphing in popularity stakes over your typical holiday in the sun. Think of all the money you could save on sun tan lotion.

The outlook for 2010 caravan holidays looks encouraging and promising, which is the belief that has been expressed on journeyetc.com, as “holidaymakers give the positive UK weather predictions for the next decade, the continuing poor exchange rates, concerns over the environment and the wider concerns about travel safety for their reasons for wanting to stay closer to home”.

Statistics released by the Caravan Club show that in 2009 over £20 million was spent by campers on “eating out, shopping, buying country produce and day trips out – all of which provided a much needed injection of cash flow for local towns”.

Given that the ‘staycation’ seems to be in full swing, caravanning is showing that it is moving with the times and into the limelight, as well as becoming more eye-catching to the public – which are all encouraging signs that both campers and caravanners will be looking to experience in 2010.
