Over the years Top Gear’s stunts have gone from the latest craze to absolutely crazy, but according to the Guardian website the new series will feature “fewer crazy stunts” and become more serious. Before we close the door on the daft stunts, let’s take a cruise down memory lane and reflect on the highlights of previous series.

One of the most notorious stunts was the Airship Caravanning episode, which was only “tangentially related to cars, and managed to combine Top Gear’s love of pointless indulgence better than most”, reports the Guardian website. According to the Telegraph website one of the craziest stunts was when the members of the cast decided to build a boat made out of cars and cross the British Channel – needless to say this did not end well, but as always made good television.

Another classic episode was the one where they tried extreme motorhome racing. Seen as the motorhome is really just a caravan with an engine, it’s hardly a surprise to see the Top Gear boys find an excuse to smash a few up.

“Top Gear is one of those shows that it’s almost impossible not to like”, according to Sky.com, even if you don’t like cars or even the oddball presenters, over the last few years the BBC’s flagship motoring programme has become less about actual motoring and more about “grown men mucking around like children”.

This however is about to change, with the new series, which started this weekend, promising to be about actual cars, not cars decorated like cottages, or cars strapped to the side of hot air balloons. If you need proof that this series is still guaranteed to deliver on (toned down) craziness, Top Gear magazine has reported that during the filming of the new series 19 Range Rovers were used but only 18 were returned intact and more worryingly, 12 fire extinguishers were urgently deployed while filming.

Ahead of the first episode, James May has done the unthinkable and warned viewers not to expect as much “Last of the Summer Wine tomfoolery” as they’re used to. It’s good to see the presenters haven’t lost their unique sense of humour.

If you think it’s time to tone down the pressure of looking for caravan or motorhome insurance, call Sureterm Direct free on 0800 999 2030 or click here and get a hassle free quote.

We should live in a society where we always feel safe, but in reality this isn’t always the case. Being armed with commonsense and experience is therefore not a bad thing when embarking on a camping trip alone. As a general belief, “campers are a friendly welcoming bunch of people who are out to become one with nature”, according to SearchWarp.com, but being aware of possible dangers could come in handy.

More and more women are packing their bags and heading on a solitary journey in their caravan or motorhome throughout the UK, following a trend that already exists in America. The single travel trend is very apparent at camping grounds across America, with one camp site owner reporting that “14% of our park model customers who have seasonal sites are women camping by themselves”. The same site owner revealed that “many of the younger singles live nearby and drive up for the weekend”, which in my eyes is a much safer approach to holidaying alone, as opposed to exploring far away unknown territory without the safety of a companion.

Woodalls.com has reported that the leading attractions in campgrounds for women camping alone are “comfort, affordability and security”. Before departing on a camping trip it may be beneficial to search camping/caravan or motorhome forums, such as PracticalCaravan.com, to see where other single women go so you know where other women feel safe.

Female campers have highlighted some issues that arise when travelling alone such as, towing and pitching as well as the persistent safety worry. Discussions into this topic have revealed that women feel having a site review specifically designed for women would be a great help, with one female caravanner saying “many more women may take this type of holiday if manufacturers and dealers targeted them as customers instead of focusing exclusively on couples and families”, reports PracticalCaravan.com.

Recent research has revealed that the majority of women opt for motorhomes instead of caravans because the towing and manoeuvring can be difficult if you’re not fully aware of the measures to take. If women knew more about owning a caravan maybe more would buy them, which means a cheaper investment for a single person. Could the caravan industry be missing out on a potentially large market?

Camping solo without the facts might be a no go, but caravan or motorhome insurance is a must.

The Caravan Club have reported that the latest addition to the Elddis range is the “best caravan available for under £12k”. The Elddis Xplore 302 was the winner of ‘The Caravan Club Caravan Design Awards 2010 for the under £12,000’ category – so it’s no surprise that the smallest UK-built caravan is one of the top choices on the market today.

The Xplore model, which was originally launched in 2008, made a name for itself as being the Caravan Industry’s “Tourer of the Year”, reports elddiscaravans.org, however this year has seen the updated Xplore that is “even better than before”. With an improved design and exciting new layout, the Elddis Xplore will charm you and help you stay within your budget.

It may be the smallest caravan built in the UK, but the Explore 302 is still “tardis-like”, according to elddis.co.uk, and spacious enough to contain a full kitchen and bathroom, so don’t let the size fool you.

The chosen destination for the launch of the new model was at the Birmingham NEC last month, which saw people coming from far and wide“seeking cheaper vehicles emerging from the recession”, reports CaravanClub.co.uk, and that is exactly what they got from the Elddis Xplore 302.

The good news about the latest Elddis edition is that you can store it on your driveway and it can easily be towed with a small car such as a Corsa or Punto. The Caravan Channel have announced that they will be at The UK Motorhome and Caravan Spring Fair at Newark on the 27th and 28th March, and their stand will feature the actual caravan as well as some video from the event on the Caravan Channel and the Caravanning News Website.

CaravanTalk.org.uk has reported that “the benefits of this smallest edition to the award-winning Elddis range are clear to see”, with an allure that will appeal to “couples and individuals new to caravanning or upgrading from camping and trailer tents”.

With “class-leading luxurious touches and Xplore’s funky, vibrant upholstery”, the Elddis Xplore 302 is totally unique and provides the perfect setting for outdoor enthusiasts who want a comfortable and well-equipped base, according to CaravanTalk.org.uk.

With an allure that appeals to drivers of all ages, Sureterm Direct offer competitive caravan insurance policies for both new caravanners and existing customers looking to renew their insurance.

Having a crystal ball and predicting the future isn’t something many of us can boast, but with obvious signs that holidaying at home is increasing, it can safely be said that the future of “UK holidays in the great outdoors is definitely looking bright”, as reported on Travel Daily News.

Leading camping and caravanning site Pitchup.com have “looked into their crystal beach ball to make predictions about what the future may hold for camping and caravanning”, and signs are positive especially if you add this to the fact that the volume of “pitch nights significantly surpassed expectations in 2009”.

A country that really knows how to make the most out of the motorhome lifestyle is America. What better way to live the American Dream than to travel round in a luxurious house on wheels, arriving at each destination in style and class? In a BBC News article it is claimed that “in Britain you need a professional license to drive such a vehicle, however in America all you need is the nerve and desire”.

With an increase in the number of people planning to take motorhome or caravan holidays, manufacturers will have to battle it out to attract RV and motorhome customers. RV maker Winnebago Industries believe that “customers are drawn to quality and well-established brands, particularly during the challenging economic conditions”.

Now glamping (glamorous camping) has gone mainstream and the demand for camping and caravanning continues to grow, there is likely to be a flurry of both rural and urban campers. Travel Daily News reports that “as London 2012 approaches, the great urban outdoor and motorhome breaks away will become increasingly en vogue as an alternative to expensive city centre hotels”.

Camping is now seen as rather fashionable, which means the introduction of sleek-futuristic mod-con motorhomes or caravans will be on the agenda, as well as additional facilities and features added to campsites. Spokesperson at The British Holiday & Home Parks Association agrees that the future looks bright for camping, predicting “we will see an increase in high-quality accommodation, and the introduction of even more luxury spas and leisure facilities as sites invest to broaden the park experience”, which provide even more enticing reasons to stay in the UK during holiday season.

Trying to plan a holiday on a budget can be very challenging, but with the future of motor-homing and caravanning looking bright, you should jump on the mobile home ‘band’ wagon and head to the Great British countryside. Step into the light with Sureterm and trust us to provide motorhome insurance, caravan insurance or RV insurance to ensure you have a vibrant holiday.
Sometimes being labelled can be a hindrance, but having the label of “the UK’s most successful niche TV programme” as reported on UKPRwire, is definitely a label you want to stick. Having such a good reputation has paid off for The Caravan Channel, with the Swift Group (£200M p.a.) and Bailey Caravans (£80M p.a.), who premiered their advertising on Wednesday 10th February, showing their support for the programme which caters for not only caravan and motorhome enthusiasts but also fans of the great outdoors.

The Caravan Channel producer and director Chris Gosling, has commented that “many of our audience change their caravans or motorhomes every two to five years, as well as spending widely on accessories, services and campsites. They find The Caravan Channel’s mix of news, information and background detail suits their needs”. With new programmes being aired every two weeks, and each edition being shown 8 times a fortnight, there is no excuse to miss out on the latest industry news.

The channel features coverage and links to the well known Caravan Club, which offers viewers the chance to find out about the latest news and events, such as the Boat and Caravan Show which will be held between the 23-25 February at the NEC.

In the 4 years that the show has been running, Chris Gosling claims that the channel has “built what must be one of the most dedicated niche programme audiences” which aims to encourage newcomers to the caravan and motorhome industry as well as cater for the “expert cross-section of outdoor people”.

Now that the ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping) craze has got off to a speedy start, the childhood memories of family camping holidays can be forgotten and replaced with thoughts of luxurious boutique getaways, not back-to-basic breaks. Even the Telegraph has reported that “retro caravanning is the new, socially acceptable face of the motorhome vacation”.

As the green shoots start appearing, and the countryside again becomes a picturesque spring playground, you might want to get your caravan or motorhome geared up for some seasonal adventures. According to The Telegraph camping is now in style thanks to the efforts of design experts and classic car enthusiasts, who have “painstakingly renovated vintage trailers” which are popping up all over the country – meaning you can camp in style in the crème-de-la-crème of camping luxury.

Traditional retro camping is experiencing a modern make-over, with a trendy camping face-lift. Combining sleek curves and stylish alternatives to the simple bare necessities that used to be enough has now created an updated holiday experience with the latest cool camping accessories.

There comes a time when an upgrade is needed; and I’m not talking mobile phones, I’m talking mobile homes. The appeal of being warm and comfy at a festival, coupled with the aim to reduce our carbon footprint has given us a “yen for the natural life”, reports the Times Online, which means cool camping is the future.

If you have the yen for a modern camping experience, trust Sureterm Direct to provide you with caravan insurance or motorhome insurance comprehensive cover. Kate Moss, supermodel and renowned trendsetter, showed up to Glastonbury a few years ago in a modern motorhome, showing there is a cool way to hassle-free camping.

The Times Online reported that other celebrity converts include “Will Smith, Robbie Williams, Jenson Button, Jamie Oliver and Jay Kay” (lead singer of Jamiroquai). John de Mierre of the Motorhome Information Service (MIS), which represents the motorhome industry in Britain, has commented on the unintentional celebrity endorsement by saying “celebrity owners have really given us an image boost and shown that motorhomes can be sexy and modern”.

The Boat and Caravan Show, which brings caravan and outdoor enthusiasts together on February 23rd until the 28th, will be graced with celebrities such as well known TV personality Linda Barker, who is also a member of the Caravan Club, as well as fellow celebrities TV chef James Martin and Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury.

Joining the celebrity egos at the 13,000 capacity event will also be the latest product editions and industry exclusives from boats and static caravans, to tents and motorhomes. If you’re new to the caravan and motorhome mayhem, you can get behind the wheel with The Caravan Club and ‘try before you buy’.
If you’re planning on taking your pride and joy campervan to Glastonbury Festival this year you will be pleased to know that efestivals.co.uk have released information about the proposed festival changes which will run until 2016.

If you’re planning on taking your pride and joy campervan to Glastonbury Festival this year you will be pleased to know that efestivals.co.uk have released information about the proposed festival changes which will run until 2016.

Manoeuvring your campervan can sometimes be tricky, so when surrounded by thousands of music fanatics in a field this task becomes even more difficult. “The application to Mendip District Council asks for early arrivals to be able to park up from 9pm on the Tuesday” and for campervan and caravan areas to be open from noon the same day.

Parking can also be a pain at these festivals, especially when it has been raining (which is inevitable) and numerous vehicles have driven on the same patch. Time is of the essence when you attend Glastonbury festival as the sooner the get there the better tent pitch you can get for your campervan. The new licence proposes a “new access road to the site, with a new peak time access route” – which is hoped to take up to 800 cars per hour.

BBC news has reported on the proposed changes, by saying “if granted, the events future would be secured up until 2016, with the new license replacing the old one”. Caravan owners will benefit the most from the changes, with the possibility of 1000 extra caravan spaces, but for campers who brave the elements in a tent will also be an additional 30 acres of camping space.

“The campervan fields are a secure area protected by steel fencing and security staff”, reports efestivals.co.uk, so you can go and see your favourite bands play safe in the knowledge that your camper is secure. To ensure there are enough spaces in the caravan and campervan designated areas, commercial vans are no longer classed as ‘campervans’ and are not permitted in the campervan fields – which means more room for campervan devotee’s to set up camp and admire their classic automobiles.

Good news for Glastonbury campers, Sureterm Direct specialise in campervan insurance and caravan insurance.
