Leanne had worked with the Sureterm team for several years within the Administration Department and would have been 26 on Sunday.

Generous staff at the Godmanchester-based company decided to help the appeal after learning about little Bradley Spanton – a baby who receives life-saving treatment at the hospital.

Bradley suffers from thrombophilia a condition which, without medication, could cause his blood to clot and cause a fatal blockage in his heart.

Sixty staff at Sureterm Direct gave up their Christmas bonuses to buy a home blood testing kit for Bradley and agreed to give the remaining cash to the New Life Appeal.

Sue Hessom, General Manager at Sureterm Direct, said: “We were all very touched by Bradley’s plight and the staff were determined to improve his quality of life by providing the blood testing equipment.

“And when they learned there was money left over, they unanimously agreed it would be fantastic to help other children too by supporting the New Life Appeal for Hinchingbrooke Hospital.”

Sureterm Direct presented Bradley and his parents with the vital medical kit earlier this year.

And on March 4th, Janice Purbrick, Finance Director, and Mark Jackson, Customer Services and Admin Manager, presented the Hunts Post with a cheque for £6,000 for the New Life Appeal.

Generous staff at Sureterm Direct, one of the UK’s leading specialist motor insurers, have stepped in to buy life-saving medical equipment for a nine-month-old baby boy.

Bradley Spanton, from Sawtry in Cambridgeshire, suffers from thrombophilia a condition which, without medication, could cause his blood to clot and cause a fatal blockage in his heart.

The youngster has undergone four heart operations at London’s famous Great Ormond Street Hospital during his short life and has had a pacemaker and an artificial heart valve fitted.

Almost every day, Bradley needed to visit Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon for his blood to be tested, so his parents launched an appeal for a special home blood testing machine – which would eliminate the need for the distressing hospital trips.

Following the appeal, Sureterm Direct stepped into buy the vital medical equipment, which is not currently available on prescription.

Sixty staff gave up their Christmas bonuses to buy the blood testing machine, with £6,000 also being given to the special baby care unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The Spanton family of Sawtry have a 7 month old son called Bradley, who has a condition called thrombophilia.  Bradley has had 4 operations, a pacemaker and an artificial heart valve.  Every day his mother has to take him from Sawtry to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon for routine blood tests to check his condition.  Bradley’s mother doesn’t drive and so has to rely on family and friends to take her and her son to hospital everyday.  Bradley’s parents, Stephanie and Charlie turned to a local paper to help raise £7,000 for an International Normalised Ratio (INR) home blood testing machine to help their son’s condition.

Sureterm is a locally based, young, progressive company that is family focused, so when the 70 Sureterm employees, many of which have young children of their own, heard about the plight of the Spanton family, it seemed the natural choice to help out.  The employees decided that instead of receiving their traditional Christmas bonus, they would donate the money and purchase the piece of equipment that was so desperately needed by the young family.
